Happy May from Green Halloween

Like daffodils and tulips, springtime has found us in bloom - growing faster than we ever dreamed thanks to the support of individuals and businesses from coast to coast. We hope this season's sunshine finds you well (or, if you live in the Northwest, simply finds you).

Here are our recent updates

  • Thanks to Mothering magazine, Healthy Child Healthy World and individuals all over the country, our vision of bringing Green Halloween nationwide is coming to fruition. As of today, in addition to Seattle, we have eight cities signed on as official Green Halloween locations: Los Angeles CA, Fresno CA, Phoenix AZ, Magnolia TX, Salida CO, Rochester MN, Daytona Beach FL, and Canton CT. As part of Green Halloween, these cities will also be raising money for their own local beneficiaries. If your city is not on this list and you would like it to be, contact us for details on joining the initiative.
  • In the Seattle-area, we're excited to welcome Overlake Hospital and Washington Oral Health Foundation as two of this year's platinum level sponsors. We still have room for more partners (in each participating city as well as at the national level), so be sure to contact us for details on how you or your business can get involved.
  • We're in print! Jenn Savedge, author of The Green Parent, includes a section on Green Halloween in her new book, available in stores now. See below for updates on our own books, debuting in the fall.
  • Even though we're months away from Halloween, we're already in the community participating on events such as last weekend's Green Power Baby Shower. If you would like us to join you for your upcoming event from now through October 31st, please let us know as soon as possible. Also, we're starting to hear from organizations, groups and businesses who are wanting to turn this year's Halloween celebrations and events green. In a few months, we'll add these events (as well as ones that we'll be at) to our calendar of events. In the meantime, if you or someone you know needs help turning an event into a green one, of course, we're happy to help! Just let us know...
  • We received word this week that our logos were approved for registration by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office! So, if you have incredibly great vision and perceptive skills, you'll notice that Green Halloween will now be followed by a "R", rather than a "TM". Thank you to Lisa Omori, of Noland, Hamerly, Etienne & Hoss in Salinas, CA for helping us with the registration process pro-bono.

"We are thrilled to continue and expand our relationship with Green Halloween, as it officially becomes a Treeswing program this year,” shares Tracy Bennett, Executive Director of Treeswing. “This is a great opportunity to create holiday traditions that support the health of our children and our environment.”

Over the last few months, Treeswing has also been working to refine our strategic direction in order to position ourselves to successfully effect healthy change for our children. As part of our thoughtful planning process, we have refined our mission statement to ensure it conveys Treeswing’s passion and direction. We are pleased to announce Treeswing’s new mission statement:

Through innovative partnerships and programs, Treeswing improves the health of our children and prevents childhood obesity.

We hope you will join us in our work improve the health of our children and build generations of healthy, active communities!

To learn more about the work of Treeswing, as well as our other programs, please visit: www.treeswing.org.  To sign up for our newsletter, simply click here or on the “Ideas and Information” link on our homepage.

Our beta site is up and running, so be sure to check us out at TheGreenYear.com for information on our books, consulting and our Featured Vendor program, where at least 5% of product sales are contributed to Treeswing. The Green Year was developed to expand healthy and green holidays from Halloween to all holidays and celebrations, year 'round.

This week, in honor of Mother's Day, we're launching our blog - the up-to-date on-line source for ideas on greening up your holidays and special occasions.

We'll now be regular contributors to sites like Green for Good and will appear in the September/October issue of Mothering magazine, so if you can't get enough of of our great green tips, you'll have an abundance of places to find them. For current press stories, click here.

A few months ago, we attended ExpoWest in Anaheim, CA and met reps from many companies who have healthy and Earth-friendly treat, treasure and gift items perfect for Halloween and beyond. Some of these companies, such as Clif Bar, are joining our Featured Vendor Program. Featured Vendors contribute a percentage of their proceeds to Treeswing, so you'll love their products even more. Look for our logo/s on products in stores and on-line this fall.

Our two new books, Celebrate Green! and My Green Halloween Treasures are now available for preview (they'll debut for purchase October 1st).

If you know someone (or know someone, who knows someone, who knows) Leo DiCaprio, Al Gore, Sheryl Crow or the likes, let us know.

We'd love to include their blurbs on the back cover of the book.
