Everyone Halloween, my friends and I get together and play a board game by the name of “Zombies: The Board Game”. It’s a good time, and we play spooky music to fit the atmosphere.

  2. Ed Jones Says:

On the night of Halloween, before Trick-or-Treating, the families in my neighborhood gather together and we fill our Jack-o-Lanterns with candy, string them up on a tree, and make improvised pinatas. It can be very messy, but it’s a good time all around. Just watch out for flying pumpkin chunks!

Halloween-Goodwill Style

By Corey

Did you know that Americans will spent 1.75 Billion dollars on Halloween this year? That is a lot of green. We’ve come up with a way to have fun, look great, and keep some of that green in your pocket. Your local Goodwill store is an amazing resource for all things Halloween!

Have you ever felt like running away to join the circus? Don’t let the high prices of Halloween costumes scare you….just head to your local Goodwill and pick up an adorable costume at an affordable price. Our 1940′s model above is wearing Goodwill from hat to boots and everything in between. Her entire outfit came to less than $20.00!
Every vintage circus needs a ringmaster. Lion tamers are a MUST!Not only is she an amazing acrobat….she sells popcorn on the side….

Every circus needs a carnie to help out. I picked up a tattoo sleeved shirt, some bottom grillz and a newsboy cap for a song! This Halloween avoid the retail circus and head to your nearest Goodwill! Head over to www.ThriftingDenver.org for more Halloween ideas.

We are so fortunate to be able to work with Goodwill International
on making every year a Green Halloween.

My love for playing dress up began in my youth (over 40 years ago) when I would spelunk in to the dress up bin (then, a collection of family cast offs) to re ceate myself to suit my mood.

I never outgrew it and I have been a professional costumer for over 25 years.

It goes without saying that I have trolled thrift stores for THOUSANDS of hours hoping for fabric treasures, and have OFTEN come home empty handed.

It also goes without saying that I am both delighted and saddened by the easy avaiability of the flasy costume market we have today. I would have given my soul to walk in and grab and go… but the truest “COST” would have been to my creativity.

Be quite aware shoppers, you will -not- ~REALLY~ save money by thrifting for costumes (UNLESS YOU GET UNUSUALLY LUCKY) when one considers the elements of time and gas and trila and error. The off the rack costumes CAN be cheaper in fact.

But you WILL save the planet from a few more ‘new product’ petro chemicals and possibly your brain cells from synthetic made craptastic fumes.

-MY- experienced TIP… go with the openest of minds.

Dont go in -expecting- to walk out with 4 kids clothed for the 3 rings, or whatever.

Divine the racks with your creative dousing rod and see what thoughts they inspire.

  8. Chris Maria Says:

Re purposing & re using Hand-me-downs & Thrift shop items Also love using locally grown Pumpkins to add some color Try your Local farmer’s market Always a good trip

  9. Christopher Miranda Says:

I enjoy shopping at goodwill and yard sales. There are often great deals to be had and it helps the community.

  10. Robin O Says:

We like to use live pumpkins and gourds as decoration–they much better than flimsy paper centerpieces!

  11. Tanja Says:

We reuse our same decrations each year or make our own from remnants of fabric or craft items. We also light our path with mini pumpkins which we compost after Halloween.

  12. Kristen M Says:

  13. Katie Says:

Use real dried leaves for decoration instead of buying synthetic ones.

  14. Anne Lehnick Says:

  15. Mindee Says:

Reuse & make things with my two year old

  16. Joan Says:

Instead of burning a candle in the pumpkin this year, try sticking an LED “puck” light into your pumpkin. Most are inexpensive and feature some variety in lighting effects. Furthermore, you can use these lights all year round above cabinets for extra lighting during home gatherings and at night. Re-use them time and time again with rechargeable AA batteries and you’ll be green in no-time flat!

  17. Kyle Says:

Are you planning to thrown out a big cardboard box, a garden hose, or sheets anytime soon? Brainstorm a creative Halloween costume you could make for the kid(s) this year with amazing supplies right at your very front door! A ghost, a robot, a slinky, and more! The possibilities are endless, and you’ll have fun and save some money doing it too!

  18. Beth Cohen Says:

  19. Heather Keane Says:

I grew my own Corn Stalks this year! Made some home made Halloween decorations with the kids, and now eating ORGANIC Treats…

  20. Amy J. Says:

Make a scarecrow for the front porch using old ragged clothing and paper you would otherwise be recycling. Take the kids on a nature scavenger hunt to find fallen colored leaves, etc. for fall art projects to hang.

  21. Elta Says:

reusing the same decor year after year ~ possibly setting up a decor swap day with friends and maybe get “new to you” items all around.

  22. corey Says:

Congratulations to Chris Maria for winning today’s giveaway!

And thank you for all of your awesome answers. We think you are right: reusing/recycling and using all natural decor are definitely great ways to green your decor.

We hope you’ll chime in every day now through Halloween! Have a wonderful weekend, too!

  4. Add the grated Parmesan and remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil to the pumpkin mixture. Stir to combine. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary. Serve at room temperature in pumpkin shell with crudites, bread, and crackers.
